Why families choose us

Small school. Big foundations.

Four promises we make to every child, and the everyday things that make them real.

  1. Two preschoolers shaping play dough together at a classroom table

    Play-based learning

We spark curiosity through hands-on activities and imaginative play.

  2. A teacher crouched beside a boy at the craft table, helping him with his paper shapes

    Individual attention

Small class sizes mean every child feels seen and supported.

  3. Children painting with watercolours around a bright yellow table

    Creative arts

Painting, music and storytelling unleash your child's creativity.

  4. A teacher reading a picture book to a circle of children on the floor

    Foundations for the future

We help build confidence, kindness and a love of learning.

Our phonics program

Reading by mid-October. Really.

Junior Kindergarten children learn two sounds a week from September. By mid-October most are reading simple three-letter words, by January they read one-on-one with a teacher, and by March they have all 40 sounds and move on to word families.

Senior Kindergarten builds on it with vowels, double-letter sounds, 72 sight words, grammar and journaling.

Kind words from families

What parents say

My kids have gone from preschool all the way to SK, and their teaching program, coupled with the dedication of their teachers, has truly prepared them for well beyond Grade 1 level work. This love for teaching is felt throughout the walls at BBNS.

My son is in his third year at this school. He did preschool and JK here, and he's now in SK. The teachers and staff are caring and patient, and he feels safe and happy coming to school each day.

Parent · October 2026

The educators are warm, patient, and attentive, and they create a safe and engaging environment for the children. My son looks forward to going every day, and we've seen great improvements in his confidence, communication, and independence.

Parent · May 2026

Building Blocks teaches reading by phonics starting the first month of JK and as a result many children, including my son, start reading by the first half of JK. The staff are lovely, warm, friendly, and treat the children with respect.

Parent · 2022

Small class sizes, one on one teacher-student attention, incredible and creative ways of teaching your child how to read, learn math and science, all while having a blast! Everyday is a new adventure at Building Blocks.
